INTRODUCTION

We have a vacancy at Palabora Copper (Pty) Limited for a Safety Officer. Interested candidates must have worked in mining industries, preferably Smelter environment



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12.
• National Diploma in safety management or relevant qualification.
• A trade certificate would be advantageous.
• Minimum of five years surface operations experience in a Mining or Smelter environment.
• Must have a driver's licence.
• Must be the holder of a valid first aid certificate.

JOB SPECIFICATION

The incumbent will report to the Superintendent Safety and by virtue of his/her training, knowledge and experience, be able to identify any threat or potential threat to the health and safety of employees.  Responsibilities will include:

• Providing assistance to relevant operations department by conducting routine safety inspections in assigned area of responsibility.
• Analysising, preparation and presentation of safety and occupational health data to assigned area of responsibility on a regular basis.
• Compiling reports and advises on the safety and occupational health requirements.
• Participating in incident investigation in area of responsibility.
• Performing standby duties.
• Assisting with internal SHEQ audits.
• Ensuring employee and contractor adherence to SHEQ standards.
• Facilitating risk assessments.

Intrinsic Qualities

• Good working knowledge of the surface operations core processes. (Smelters, Ore Beneficiation.)
• Excellent understanding of Integrated SHEQ systems.
• Have the knowledge, ability and confidence to be able to identify potential hazards related to the job and take action to ensure all work is performed within the framework of safe work practices provided.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Good computer skills and experience e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
